Farewell to The Royal Clarence

How very sad to see the smoking remains of The Royal Clarence hotel in Exeter. It has been part of the scene for so long that we just took the lovely sight of it for granted but now cathedral green is never going to look quite the same again. So thankful that no one was caught in the blaze and that the fire service have saved so many other beautiful buildings in the immediate vicinity.

Natural Autumn Colours

We are enjoying some amazing Autumn colours at the moment, and lots of leaves swirling around whenever there is a breeze. Lots of sunshine and with temperatures only just starting to dip, all our summer plants are still going strong and still need watering! Not bad going as we approach the last week in October. It is so great to have this sort of Autumn when everywhere from the beach to the moors is showing off amazing autumnal fruits & colour.

Whale on the beach!

A whale has sent beachcombing to a whole new level today near Sandays! It is always sad to see a beautiful creature washed up on the beach but the sheer scale of this whale makes it an amazing sight which is attracting people from far and wide. It has come ashore between Red (Langstone) Rock and Dawlish so anyone wanting a glimpse must be prepared for a quite a walk. Poses a problem for any recovery operation.

Devon Open Studios until 25th September

Devon Open Studios is bigger than ever this year with a huge number of artists opening their homes & studios in the Teignbridge area. All types of art from jewellery to sculpture. Marvellous opportunity to see how everything is made and talk to the artist in person. Literally dozens of venues easily accessible from Sandays.

MORE Cygnets in Dawlish!

A second brood of cygnets has hatched this week in Dawlish to the delight of all the current visitors. This time there are two active balls of fluff, already tugging at the weed and under the watchful eye of their parents. We took a stroll from Sandays this afternoon to go and take a look: lovely sight.
