Dawlish Carnival Procession

The streets of Dawlish were lined with people for the Carnival Procession on Friday. There was a lot to see and loads of variety, from traditional floats and local groups to Notting Hill style carnival action, it took a long time to go by! Great fun and entertainment, lots of colour & noise all evening. Well done from Sandays everyone.

The Mighty Red Arrows

The Mighty Red Arrows put on a wonderful display yesterday (August 19) as part of the culmination of the “Dawlish Celebrates Carnival” week. Despite a fairly unsettled day of weather they started their display in a blue sky and as always performed the most amazing manoeuvres over the bay to the delight of hundreds of spectators (all our Sandays guests were somewhere in the crowd!). Really fantastic sight and I couldn’t resist taking yet more photos.

Great Firework evening at the Warren

One of our favourite evenings of the year is to walk around the corner from Sandays to watch the summer fireworks here at the Warren. A warm still evening meant that crowds were out from early evening enjoying the music, picnicking on the grass and generally relaxing. The shops and childrens’ funfair areas were in full swing and there was such a lovely atmosphere. Great fireworks at around 9.15pm with no-one in too big a hurry to leave afterwards! We finished off with a drink at the Boathouse before sauntering back home. Wonderful!

A rather special steam train today

We were lucky enough to have two different steam trains passing through Dawlish Warren on their outward and return journeys today. One was the rather special LMS Princess Coronation Class 46233 Duchess of Sunderland. As we never get tired of seeing steam trains we walked over from Sandays to take a look this evening as she came into Dawlish Warren around 8pm. A beautiful sight in the evening light hauling the Royal Duchy. Looked like there was plenty of dining going on in those Pullman carriages!

Sidmouth Folk Festival

We enjoyed the last day of the Sidmouth Folk festival today. Free entertainment with dancing & music everywhere on a glorious summer day. Lots of amazing craft stalls, freshly cooked wood fired pizza and even a swim in the sea. Life is good!
It takes aprox 45/50 mins to drive to Sidmouth from Sandays, worth the effort! This was the 62nd Folk Festival, always held the first week of August.

Caterpillars galore!

Spotted bushes full of these Cinnabar moth caterpillars today whilst out with the dog. Pretty sight but don’t touch them!

Beach Art in Budleigh

Take a look at this great beach art we spotted in Budleigh Salterton and get busy with those pebbles! A visit to Budleigh is a lovely trip from Sandays especially if you can make a day of it on public transport and include the Starcross – Exmouth ferry.

Lots of building and sculpting going on across all the beaches at the moment, summer fun.
