Topsham

Topsham is a beautiful and very popular town close to Exeter and a tourist attraction in its own right. The architectiure, attractive independent shops and interesting pubs and restaurants make it a pleasant place to visit.

Formerly a major seaport, Topsham has a fascinating history and it is well worth visiting the wonderful museum to find out a bit more. There is still lots of leisure activity on the water whilst landlubbers can spend a happy summer’s evening having a drink at one of the quayside pubs and watching boats coming and going. There are regular ferries and bird cruises from here too.

Also a Sandays favourite is the huge Antique centre on the Quay; a warehouse with 3 floors and a just about anything you could be looking for (and even if you are not looking for anything as such, it is delightful to browse).

Leaving the town centre on the Exmouth road will quickly bring you to the Bridge Inn by the river Clyst; a pub that hasn’t changed much since the 18th century and serves beer straight from the barrels.

Follow the road a bit further and you will find Darts Farm. There is more than shopping here: this place is just as much about the outdoors. Visit the farm or spend time around the wetland and bird hide, hire a bike or fishing line; there is a lot to choose from. There is an RSPB shop and information area that also runs regular guided walks around the reserve.
