The Exe Estuary Trail

Sandays B&B is on the Exe Estuary Trail, which runs along part of Warren Road before joining a parallel pathway. We are delighted to welcome walkers and cyclists and hope you will linger with us to learn more about the Warren and surrounding area.

The Route of the Exe Estuary Trail

The Exe Estuary Trail, completed in 2014, runs around the entire Exe Estuary linking Exmouth, Exeter and Dawlish Warren. The trail provides an exciting opportunity for people to appreciate the wildlife and pass through towns and villages steeped in maritime history. The route itself is fairly flat and takes in the most fantastic views along the River Exe with lots to see and do along the way.

Cycling and Walking along the Exe Estuary Trail

The Exe Estuary Trail is a first class cycle and walking pathway that has been developed and constructed by Devon County Council as part of the National Cycle Network Route 2. Large sections of the route are traffic free. Please note that cycles can be hired locally and delivered to your accommodation.

Now fully completed, the Exe Estuary Trail is around 26 miles in length with many smaller circuits made possible by using one of the ferry services which operate around the Estuary, or one of the bus or train routes. The Avocet train line runs between Exeter and Exmouth, and the Riviera line from Exeter to Dawlish. The number 57 bus runs between Exeter and Exmouth, and the number 2 bus between Exeter and Dawlish.

Birdwatching on the Exe Estuary

The Exe Estuary is a fantastic destination for a bird watching holiday. The Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve is one of the most important places for wildfowl and wading birds in the whole of the South West and there are also other nature reserves in the area owned by the Devon Wildlife Trust and the RSPB.
