Castle Drogo

Castle Drogo in Drewsteignton is an approximately 45 minute drive from Sandays. The last castle to be built in England this remarkable 20th century fortress holds fascinating 1930’s gadgetry and modern day green technology. The National Trust is appealing for help to preserve Castle Drogo and a huge six year restoration project is now over halfway complete. The Castle remains open to visitors with much to see and do, and special visits are possible to look in detail at the building work.

A visit to this National Trust property could be combined with a trip to the nearby Stone Lane Gardens Arboretum and Sculptures (registered charity, not NT), or other parts of Dartmoor

Stone Lane Gardens are close to Drewsteignton village and consist of five acres of beautiful gardens with the birch and alders here designated as “National Collections”. Ponds, streams, sculptures and a very relaxed informal approach make this a lovely and unusual place to visit.
