All about Trees

We enjoyed the “Tree Walkabout” this afternoon with the very knowledgeable Dominic Scanion, District Aboriculturalist. This was one of the many walks that area forming the Dawlish walking festival and was well supported. We strolled around Dawlish and learnt a lot about trees that we often hardly notice, I shall appreciate them more now!  Did you know that Magnolias were one of the first flowering trees, or that the Yew outside St. Gregory’s church probably dates from early Victorian times? (relatively young for a Yew tree). Or that the Monterey Pine standing so tall by the Manor House is much younger than it looks because these are trees that thrive in the South West? The festival continues all week for locals and visitors alike. We will certainly recommend at Sandays and there is another tree walkabout on Friday evening.
