The construction phase of the Lower Otter Restoration Project is now complete, re-connecting the River Otter with its floodplain and creating 55 hectares of estuary habitat. In many ways however the story is just beginning and a large focus has been to attract people as well as wildlife. Improved car parking, viewing areas and information boards aimed at adults and children, new footbridges and improved paths, planting, picnic benches, play area; this is a destination in itself. If you haven’t been to Budleigh for a while you might be surprised at the work that has taken place. This intertidal habitat creation project will help to mitigate climate change and has been carried out by the Environment Agency in partnership with the East Devon Pebblebed Heath Conservation Trust and Clinton Devon Estates.
